Snorkeling has become an important aspect of ecotourism promotion in the Bahamas. There are hundreds of reefs and wrecks throughout the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. West End alone has more than 6 popular spots including the infamous Boat Wreck situated in 6 feet of water and The Historic 16th Century Sugar Wreck Galleon Ship located 24 miles from West End.
The "Coral Reef Experience Tour" features five amazing snorkel reefs - Settlement Point West and Settlement Point South, Nirvana I @ Indian Cay, Nirvana II @ Wood Cay and Bootle Bay that provide additional opportunities to observe a variety of fish. Underwater photography opportunities can provide some incredible images of wildlife. Below is information about a popular reef and boat wreck sites that provide incredible sea life to film including sharks, stingrays and moray eels.
Nirvana Reef I is just as it is described - total snorkel heaven - every imaginable coral specie can be found from Elkhorn, colourful Fan Corals, Brain Coral and numerous species of fish and sea life that inhabit this pristine area. A variety of sea life may be seen including moray eels, sea turtles, eagle rays, lobsters and reef cleaning fish.
The Boat Wreck is one of the most requested spots to snorkel as the boat rests in less that 8 feet of water. The wreck is covered with coral and teeming with thousands of fish. This idyllic spot is a broken boat wreck approximately 70 feet in length. Huge Loggerhead sea turtles, sleeping Nurse Sharks, Lionfish and maybe you can spot the 6 foot Moray Eel that resides inside the weck.
The Sugar Wreck is a 16th Century cargo vessel that went down during a raging storm in less than 20 feet of water. Visitors to this site are required to have exceptional swimming and snorkel skills. Perfect for Free Divers and Fishing enthusiasts. This tour requires flat seas and calm winds and is usually booked within 4 days of arrival subject to weather conditions. Guests are offered the opportunity to fish the area and snorkel this ancient site. Due to the distance from shore this tour is only booked for full day excursions. If you wish to reserve a full day of activity please select the BOOK NOW link and choose either the STINGRAY EXPERIENCE or REEF FISHING EXPERIENCE to enhance your vacation to Grand Bahama Island. This option is split into (2) - 4 hour tours with a 1-hour break for lunch at Old Bahama Bay Resort. (Lunch not included and can be ordered in advance).
In case of inclement weather and we are not able to complete the second tour every effort will be made to rebook another day during your stay or receive a prorated refund for the unused portion. No shows are non-refundable.
